New to Therapy?
Starting therapy is one of the most meaningful investments you can make in yourself. Below are answers to the questions I hear from people who are curious about therapy but don’t know where to start.
Common Questions
How do I choose a therapist?
01
When choosing a therapist it is important to choose a therapist who is focused on your unique needs. Some therapists focus on only one method, and treat every client in a very similar manner. This one size fits all approach can sometimes feel impersonal. Choosing a therapist that tailors their style and approach to your unique needs and personality can be a very rewarding experience. The most important factor is fit. Research has shown that the relationship you build over time with your therapist is the most important factor in the success of therapy.
What type of therapy works best?
02
Different issues require different approaches. There is not one therapeutic modality that works best for every problem. Additionally, not every approach resonates with every client. Going to therapy should be something that fits you, your life, your needs and your unique personality. This is why it is important to work with a therapist that gets you — someone who can assess what the problem is and then tailor their approach to your specific needs and goals.
Who is therapy best suited for?
03
Therapy has been shown to be extremely helpful in dealing with Anxiety, Depression, and a variety of mental health issues both mild and severe. However, you don't have to be struggling with your mental health to benefit from therapy. Therapy can also help you cope with the struggles of everyday life — whether it's a stressful job, marital problems, or just feeling stuck with no direction. A good therapist can help you work through these challenges and tap into inner resources, to live the life you've always wanted.
